Meghan Markle's former TV series Suits has been axed.


The 37-year-old - who is expecting her first child with husband Prince Harry - played lawyer Rachel Zane in Aaron Korsh's hit US legal drama from the first episode in 2011, until her last appearance in 2018, during season 7.


SYFY revealed on Wednesday the show will come to an end after the ninth 10 episodes long instalment, after losing a significant amount of viewers.


Meghan and her co-star Patrick J. Adams, (Mike Ross) both left the show at the end of season seven.


The final episode of that season saw Rachel and Mike finally tie the knot , before leaving for Seattle.


Aaron Korsh previously said he took a gamble that Meghan's romance with Prince Harry was going to work out and decided to write her out of the show.


The official line is on why the show is being axed is unclear, but the series has lost viewers since Meghan quit the show.


According to FOX News, the return of season 8, (which excluded Meghan and Patrick), averaged with 1.2 million viewers, 100,000 less than its seventh season.


Ratings have been consistently dipping since the start, even with Meghan in the show. Season one began with an average of 4.6 million viewers in 2011.


Though the show will be be ending this coming season, it won't be the last fans have seen of the Suits universe.


Gina's character Jessica Pearson will be the focus of the upcoming Suits spin-off, Pearson, which follows her new life in Chicago.


The show is set to premiere this year.
